Strategist/Developer

4Site Studios is looking for a digital strategist who has solid technical chops, or a Front-End Developer who likes interacting with clients. You would lead small WordPress development projects for our clients, but also perform a variety of strategic and technical tasks. You must relish the art of translating client ideas into actionable tasks, and you must know WordPress inside-and-out. Ideally you have a half-dozen years of experience, and are looking for a challenging environment where you can learn a lot.

More about the type of person we are looking for

You’ll be interfacing with clients, so you must be a good communicator. You’ll be expected to extract their preferences, create a web plan that addresses their concerns, and complete some of the work to build a small WordPress website.

You must be able to work independently. Yes, every job description says that, but we mean it. We’ve got a rigorous project management system that we've developed through countless client projects. Since many of us are remote, we lean heavily on it (and on Slack) to make sure we are all working efficiently towards the same goal. This includes keeping track of your hours. Let us repeat that, you must be capable of diligently tracking your time throughout the day and keeping your tasks updated.

Ideally you feel as passionate about supporting the digital needs of progressive organizations as we do.

More about the skills you’ll need

You should have a solid foundation in web standards and best practices, and have real-world experience solving usability problems,  and implementing accessibility best practices.

You must have experience in PHP, CSS and JavaScript.

You must have at least a basic understanding of the following: AJAX, HTML5, JSON, CSS preprocessors such as Sass or Stylus.

If you happen to also know something about SEO and analytics, we’d be overjoyed, but these skills are not required. If you're interested in cross-training to learn them, there will be many opportunities to do so.

You have at least five years of experience working in a digital agency, working in-house at an organization building and managing their website, or working as a freelancer in the industry.

We don’t care what degrees you have, as long as you are articulate, diligent, and inventive.

Working at 4Site

We are a tight-knit team of seven full-time employees and several contractors who perform DevOps for a wide variety of progressive, non-profit clients. About half of us work in our Columbia Heights office in the District of Columbia, and half are remote. We don’t care where you work, or when you work, as long as your work product is exceptional and you deliver on time.

We offer four weeks of paid vacation, a retirement plan, and healthcare.

How to Apply

Send your cover letter and resume to careers@4sitestudios.com. And to ensure you're the type of candidate who pays attention to details, please include in your cover letter a favorite movie quote. This will also help us weed out applicant spam and spend more time with those showing a high degree of interest. If it looks like you could be a good fit, we’ll schedule a phone interview and explain a little more about the job and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also talk about your salary requirements and make sure they are in line with our budget.

If all goes well, we’ll hire you, at market rate, to complete a small project for us so that we can get to know each other a little better. If you blow us away with your charm and acumen, we’ll offer you a full-time job at a salary commensurate with your experience.

And of course, 4Site Studios is an equal opportunity employer.
